Competition Ice Technician
Pre-requisites: One of the following two options:
- “Certified” Head Ice Technician Program OR;
- “Certified” Level 2 (previous levels system) with Safe Sport Education Module
AND
*selection based on experience may be required*
- 3 years experience working as a Certified Head Ice Technician
- Resume
- Letter of Interest outlining career aspirations
Program Length: Three-day in-person training.
Status at the End of the Workshop: “Trained” Competition Ice Technician
Evaluation: Online Evaluation
Status after Evaluation: “Certified” Competition Ice Technician
Who should attend: Certified Head Ice Technicians who wish to gain more knowledge for their personal professional development. Certified Head Ice Technicians who want to get involeved in competitive events being held in their province/ territory.
Learining outcomes: Participants of Competition Ice Technician workshop can expect to learn about:
- Water filtration and flooding ice level
- Advanced Pebbling techniques, theory (e.g., size, temperature, and speed)
- Advanced Scraping techniques, reading the blade, honing, truing the blade
- Advanced Clipping with a Scraper, controlling speed and curl with the clip
- Dragging rocks to break them in after texturing and to break the sheet in before game play
- Building the sheet for Competition ice
- Preparing ice for Local Tour Events, Mixed Doubles, Youth Events, and Wheelchair
- Monitoring and controlling environmental conditions (e.g. Refrigeration, air, humidity)
- Stone maintenance, advanced texturing techniques, maintaining the running surface width
- Troubleshooting
- Takedown
- Scheduling & Volunteer Management
- Professionalism and advanced customer service (e.g. With Staff, Management, Public, Ice Technicians)
