CURLSASK offers three different coaching courses for those who are interested in becoming a coach.
Instructors will take a one-day workshop that is designed to enhance the skill of instructors who function primarily at the community level. Individuals interested in helping teams currently active at a recreational level, or helping teams wishing to become more competitive in CURLSASK’s club-focused competitions are invited to take this workshop.
Coaches who complete this one-day workshop earn the “Club Coach Trained” designation, though it does not provide formal certification. The program equips club-level coaches to train athletes aged 15+ at beginning to intermediate skill levels, focusing on practice planning, skill instruction, ethical decision-making, safety, and program management. Club Coaches play a key role in leading Learn to Curl Programs.
Coaches who complete the process will become Certified Competition Coach. The coaches will be able to prepare a team to compete in regional and provincial competitions. They will be proficient at planning and executing safe and efficient practices.
This program is designed to assist the coach in taking their teams to the next level of provincial, national or international play. This workshop focuses on the planning, strategy, analysis, and program management needed to improve your team’s performance. Coaches should be actively working with a “Training to Compete” level team during this program There is a small wheelchair curling component, so coaches working with athletes with a disability would also benefit from this program.
