Teams that register by January 15, 2018 with CURLSASK will accumulate all points for the season for the SMDCT Berth and CTRS Berths. Any team registering with CURLSASK after January 15, will accumulate points from date of registration forward.

Bonspiel Requirements/Rules

GENERAL MIXED DOUBLES RULES

*All teams will be required to comply with Curling Canada’s Brushing Moratorium at SMDPA events.

Points System and Registration

Teams will earn spots into the Saskatchewan Mixed Doubles Provincial competition based on the following order of criteria:

  1. Canadian Mixed Doubles Rankings (CMDR) (6 berths)
    • The top 8 eligible teams on the rankings as of February 1, 2020 not already qualified will be awarded provincial berths.
    • Teams must be registered on the CMDR by January 15, 2020 to be eligible.
  2. Saskatchewan Mixed Doubles Tour Rankings (SMDR) (8 berths)
    • The top 8 eligible teams on the rankings will be awarded berths in the provincial championship; any unclaimed berths will be awarded to the next highest ranked team.
    • Teams must be registered on the SMDR by January 15, 2020.
  1. CURLSASK U18 Mixed Doubles Championship (4 berths)
    • The semi-finalists of the CURLSASK U18 Mixed Doubles Championship will earn berths in the Mixed Doubles Provincial Championship.
    • Any unclaimed berths will be awarded to the next highest finishing U18 team.
  1. Last Chance Berth Event (6 berths)
    • This will be an open-entry event serving as a last chance qualifier for the provincial championship.
    • All entries will be subject to CURLSASK Registration Fee ($140 GST included) + bonspiel fee.
  • In the event of a tie for a qualifying berth, the Tiebreaker Criteria will be as follows:
    • Higher Ranked CMDR team
    • Higher Ranked SMDR team
    • Number of 1st place finishes in all events.
    • Number of 2nd place finishes in all events.
    • Number of 3rd/4th place finishes in all events.
    • Number of 5th to 8th place finishes in all events.
    • Head to head record of the teams in all events.
    • Sudden death playoff among tied teams. Date and location determined by CURLSASK
  • Points for the Saskatchewan Mixed Doubles Tour Rankings (SMDTR) will be awarded as follows:
    Tier 1 – Sask Mixed Doubles Curling Tour Events
  • Event Entry fee must be greater than or equal to $400.00
    • 1st – 28 points
    • 2nd – 22 points
    • 3rd & 4th – 18 points
    • 5th – 8th – 14 points
    • 2 points per win for non-playoff teams in knockout or pool play
      Tier 2 – Sask Mixed Doubles Curling Tour Events
  • Event entry fee must be greater than or equal to $250.00
    • 1st – 22 points
    • 2nd – 18 points
    • 3rd & 4th – 14 points
    • 5th – 8th – 10 points
    • 1 point per win for non-playoff teams in knockout or pool play
      Tier 3 – Sask Mixed Doubles Curling Tour Events
  • Event entry fee must be greater than or equal to $100.00
    • 1st – 16 points
    • 2nd – 12 points
    • 3rd & 4th – 9 points
    • 5th – 8th – 5 points
    • 1 point per win for non-playoff teams in knockout or pool play
  • * should an event run with less than 16 teams entered, only 6 teams will earn playoff points
  • ** should an event run with less than 10 teams entered, only 4 teams will earn playoff points
  1. If any of the above spots are not filled to complete the 24 team field at provincials, the remaining spots will be awarded to the next highest team(s) based on the SMDR points system.
  2. Teams are considered entered when a complete line-up and all fees have been received by CURLSASK.

In the event where team(s) who are not eligible for Playdowns, as per the set criteria, qualify for the playoffs, it is understood that the placing points for that team are not awarded and not passed on to any team. (e.g. If a team from Alberta wins an event then the points vanish and are not awarded to any team.)
