Silvernagle Clinches Spot Into 1 vs. 2 Page Playoff Game

Silvernagle Defeats Englot in Saturday Nights A-Final

Robyn Silvernagle and her team out of the Twin Rivers Curling Club carried on with their winning ways, making it their 11th out of 12 wins here at the Viterra Scotties Women’s Provincial over the past two years!

They met up with Regina’s Michelle Englot in tonight’s A-Final game, where Michelle and team came into this game on a bit of a hot streak to start the event, winning their first three games.

A fairly open start to this one with Englot taking the early 1-0 lead. But it wasn’t until the 3rd end where Silvernagle, deciding to play the difficult angle slash double, chooses wisely and makes it perfectly for a big score of three to take the 3-1 lead. After an unfortunate pick in the 5th end on Englots final stone, Silvernagle drew for her deuce and a big 6-2 lead playing the 6th.

Englot’s team of third Sara England, second Shelby Brandt & Lead Nicole Bender clawed their way back scoring in three consecutive ends to tie things up coming home. Silvernagle brushers Jessie Hunkin & Kara Thevenot did their part keeping the end clean and following it up with a perfect sweep on Silvernagles last to the top of the button to take tine final 7-6! Silvernagle and team qualify out of the A-Event, earning that bye into Monday’s 1 vs. 2 Page Playoff game.

Howard vs. Streifel Extra End Battle

After dropping their first game to a red hot Rae-Ann Williamson out of the Regina Highland, the newly formed Ashley Howard squad from Saskatoon made it two in a row with a big Draw 5 win over Swift Current’s Kristen Streifel.

Teams traded deuces in the first three ends, with Streifel taking an eventual 6-3 lead after six ends of play. A brilliant 7th end by both teams as Kelly Schafer (throwing skips rocks for Streifel) made a fantastic triple on her first, followed by a delicate double from Howard, ultimately limiting Howard to just the two points. Ashley and team then gained some momentum stealing in consecutive ends (8th & 9th) earning an 8-6 lead coming home.

Once Streifel locked things up after the 10th and final end, we needed extras, and what an end it was. With Streifel lying two buried behind a center guard, Ashley was forced to play a back -four weight delicate come around for the win!! Howard stays alive in the B-Event, where they will take on Englot in Draw 7 tomorrow afternoon.
