2019 CURLSASK AGM & Awards Gala

CURLSASK Member Sessions & Annual General Meeting

The 2019 CURLSASK Member Sessions kicked off our Saturday up at the Saskatoon Ramada Hotel, where the CURLSASK Staff & Board of Directors installed a new look to these sessions. Our “Rockin’ It” Panel was the feature of this session, where we gathered club representatives who have succeeded in a variety of categories from the past couple curling seasons! We invited one representative to sit on our panel of members to discuss a “close to home” asset of their club & then presented these findings to those in attendance.

Wendy Thienes (Shaunavon) ~ Youth Programming & Development
Dean Kleiter (Saskatoon) ~ High Performance Coaching & Development
James Gordon (Saskatoon) ~ Ice Technician & Quality
Scott Comfort (Wadena) ~ Marketing & Club Sponsorship
John Butt & Tyler Smith (Leader) ~ Club Rebuild & Renovations

We want to thank all the panel members for making the trip out and sharing their experiences from their club! With this initiative, we wanted to create a space for clubs to create initial contact, and share ideas with one another to grow curling clubs all across the province.

Please stay tuned for video content of the member session, this will become public to all members shortly!

Christy Walker New CURLSASK President

What an amazing past few seasons it has been with Swift Currents Mitch Minken as president of CURLSASK. His leadership & passion for the sport of curling supported an amazing sense of direction for this organization moving forward, and he will be dearly missed in this role. Also, a big congratulations to Mitch as he received the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, presented by the Mayor of Swift Current on behalf of the Governor General of Canada!

Mitch will not be going very far though, as he has agreed to stay involved in the sport of curling, both as a member of the Swift Current Curling Club & with the Legends of Curling Committee here in Saskatchewan.

With that, we want to send a warm welcome to incoming President Christy Walker from the Twin Rivers Curling Club in North Battleford. Christy, originally from a farm outside the town of Kerrobert, has been involved with curling as a board member, competitive curler & volunteer within her community! Thank you for taking on this role for the next two years Christy, and we know that CURLSASK will be in good hands.

Also coming on board for the next year, are board of directors Darcey Huyghebaert (Moose Jaw) & Kory Kohuch (Sasktoon). We are pleased to have their curling experience and wealth of knowledge moving forward.

The 2019 CURLSASK AGM Full Video & Audio will be available shortly on the CURLSASK YouTube Channel & CURLSASK Website!

CURLSASK Awards Gala

Following the AGM, the 2019 CURLSASK Awards Gala took place at the Saskatoon Ramada Hotel. With a lovely dinner & awards presentation to welcome in our 2019 Award Inductees, 2019 Provincial Champions & special guests.

It was an exciting evening for all who attended, with past champions, legends inductees, award winners & past members/presidents able to reunite with familiar faces from around the province! We want to thank everyone who took time out of their weekend to travel to Saskatoon to create an evening we will not forget.

A big thank you to all the special guests in attendance, as well as our “rock”-star of a Masters of Ceremonies, and past president Patricia Bibby of Prince Albert!
