Ackerman & Gervais Headed to Canada Winter Games!
Ackerman Captures Title in Extra End Fashion
Skylar Ackerman, Madison Johnson, Chantel Hoag, Samantha McLaren & Coach Patrick Ackerman earn their second set of green jackets in the past eight months, as they were the 2018 U18 Provincial Champions.
Ackerman’s route to the championship final consisted of a dramatic 8th end victory over Weyburn’s Emily Haupstein, as Skylar made a pick for three and the 8-7 win!
On Sunday afternoon, they took on the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games Champions, Team Madison Kleiter in the final. Kleiter earned the direct bye into the final finishing atop the teams with a 5-0 record. This one came down to the wire as Ackerman carried the hammer into the extra end. Kleiter was forced to make a tough tap to the four foot to out count Ackermans shot rock, but was a bit wide.
Congratulations to Team Ackerman as they will head to Red Deer to represent Saskatchewan at the 2019 Canada Winter Games Feb. 15 – Mar. 3!
Gervais Defeats Bernath in Sunday’s Final
Brecklin Gervais and his team out of the Kronau Curling Club took a similar route to the championship final as Team Ackerman on the women’s side. Gervais finished second after the round robin concluded, finishing with 4-1 record securing him a spot in the semi final against Rosetowns Cody Sutherland.
Gervais scored a big end of four followed by a steal of two in the 3rd & 4th ends, leading to his 8-4 victory lining up Sunday’s final against Team Daymond Bernath of Saskatoon.
Bernath, also the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games Champions last season, fell behind early by a score of 3-0 as Gervais put up a big steal of two in the 3rd end. The teams traded deuces in the 6th & 7th ends, where Brecklin was forced to make a nose hit in the final end for the 6-3 victory!
Congratulations to Brecklin, James, Josh, Andrew & Marcia who will join Team Ackerman in representing Saskatchewan at the 2019 Canada Winter Games Feb. 15 – Mar. 3 in Red Deer.
A huge thank you to Ian Naismith and his team at the Twin Rivers Curling Club for amazing ice conditions all weekend. As well as to the many wonderful volunteers who put on the first class event.
