Two SK Curlers Receive Spirit of Sandra Scholarships!

Sarah Hoag ~ Regina, SK

What a ride it has been the past few curling seasons for Reginas Sarah Hoag! Sarah remarkably returns as a Schmirler Scholar, as she was selected as a recipient in 2016-2017. She then followed that up later that season with a green jacket as she was crowned the U18 Provincial Champion, and now receiving her second Spirit of Schmirler scholarship this season.

Sarah is also taking an initiative within our organization, as she is an excellent resource sitting on our Competition Committee as our Junior representative! Thank you Sarah for your hard work and dedication to the sport of curling in Saskatchewan!!

Sarah will receive $5,000 to assist with education and curling along with mentoring from Cathy Overton-Clapham & Pat Simmons.

Sarah will continue her junior curling season this upcoming year as she joins forces with last years provincial champion Sara England!

Alexa Dixon ~ Saskatoon, SK

Alexa Dixon of Saskatoon is a first time recipient of the Sandra Schmirler Scholarship with her selection this season. Alexa keeps herself busy with her studies in Animal Bioscience, volunteering at a veterninary clinic, and somehow finding time to grow the sport of curling in Saskatchewan & Alberta where she is an instructor in Learn to Curling programs.

Alexa is a great representative on the ice in the competitive scene as well, where she made a fantastic run at the 2017-2018 Jiffy Lube Junior Provincial Championships making it all the way to the final as second with Team Chaelynn Kitz of Saskatoon!

Thank you Alexa for your efforts both on and off the ice in the sport of curling!

Both recipients will receive $5,000 to assist with education and curling along with mentoring from Cathy Overton-Clapham and Pat Simmons. All six recipients will also award a $10,000 grant to a hospital of their choice for the purchase of life-saving equipment to help save babies lives! – Sandra Schmirler Foundation
