Team Sask Daily Blogs #2 ~ U18 Canadian Curling Championships

U18 Boys ~ Team Bindig

An early morning for us today with opening ceremonies starting at9amlocal time. The bagpipes sent a shiver of excitement through all of us as everyone stepped onto the arena ice. It’s official. We are here, our first national event as this team!
Introductions, speeches and an emotional moment of silence for our Humboldt Bronco family back in Saskatchewan. There weren’t many dry eyes in the house when the piper’s first haunting notes of “Amazing Grace” echoed around us.

Immediately following the ceremonies, we were on the ice for our inaugural game against Alberta. The keen ice was a sweeper’s dream, not too many light rocks were a sweepers dream! A tough loss, with some great shots made.

After lunch, we drove across Passamaquoddy Bay at low tide to Minister’s Island for a quick tour and sightseeing. Then back to the mainland to prepare for our 6pm (local time) game against Nova
Scotia.

One thing is for sure….there is no shortage of things to do in Saint Andrews by the Sea!!

U18 Girls ~ Team Ackerman

Good Morning from New Brunswick!

Yesterday was an early morning for our on-ice team pictures and Opening Ceremonies. Our first National Opening Ceremonies was exhilerating. It was also inspiring as we looked around at our fellow curlers and heard in many speeches that we were in a group of future National, World & Olympic Champions! It is definitely an honour to be here representing Saskatchewan.

A poignant moment of silence was held for the Humboldt Bronco’s, tears flowed as we listened to the bagpiper play “Amazing Grace”.

After the opening ceremonies, we watched Sask boys play against former teammate Dustin Mikush’s Team Alberta. It was fun being a spectator but we were itching to get back out on the ice to play Team NWT!

We put a W in the win column with a 10-2 victory after 7 ends! We are on the ice for two games today at 7 a.m. SK time against Team Ontario & 3 p.m. SK time against Team PEI.

Thanks for all of the support from back home – we are hearing it and feeling the love!
