Mixed Team & U18 Championships Conclude CURLSASK Competitive Season
Ackerman Claims Mixed Championship
It has been a long time coming for Jason Ackerman and team before they claimed this years Mixed Provincial Championship, as they have been victim to a handful of second place finishes in this event. But Ackerman and team did not disappoint this time around, as they went undefeated this past weekend.
Ackerman got on a roll early and never looked back, as they outscored their opponents 32-12 in their six games throughout the week.
Jason & Colleen will head back to the Canadian Championship, where they were victorious in 2012 with former teammates Chantelle Eberle & Dean Hicke. Jason, Deanna, Mitch & Colleen will represent Saskatchewan at the 2019 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship Nov. 5-10, 2018 at the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba!

Bindig Captures U18 Boys Championship
What a weekend it was for the Bindig rink out of the Wadena Curling Club, as they were victorious at this years U18 Provincial Championship!
Bindig played a combined 9 games throughout the weekend, where they captured the B-Event over Team Behm of Moose Jaw (7-2) booking them a spot into the semi finals, where they faced off against Saskatoon’s Devan Doucette. Back and forth game here where Bindig scored a big three followed by a steal of one that lead to the 6-5 victory.
Bindig then went on to play the Brett Reddekopp rink out of the Spiritwood Curling Club, where the teams faced off twice earlier in the week, both splitting wins. Reddekopp hopped out to a quick 4-0 lead, but Bindig answered with eight straight points as he held on to a 8-6 lead with hammer coming home. Bindig finished off in style making a draw to the eight foot for the provincial title!
Team Bindig will now represent Saskatchewan at the 2018 Canadian Under-18 Boys Curling Championship, which will be held April 9-14 in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick!
Ackerman Wins All Three Events to Claim U18 Title
The Ackerman rink out of the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre had their eyes on the provincial title heading down the road from Moose Jaw into the Swift Current Curling Club, and they did just that as they rallied off seven straight wins to earn the provincial title.
Ackerman met up with the Madison Kleiter rink out of Saskatoon in the A-Event final, where it needed an extra end and a final score of two making the 7-5 final for Ackerman. They then met up with Regina’s Tegan Zankl in both the B & C-Event finals, where Ackerman defeated Zankl in both games by scores of 6-2 & 4-3.
As Ackerman was victorious in all three events, they avoided any playoff in this years event. Team Ackerman will now represent Team Saskatchewan at the 2018 Canadian Under-18 Girls Curling Championship April 9-14 in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick!
Sutherland Defends Provincial Win
The Cody Sutherland rink out of the Rosetown Curling Club go “back-to-back” as they were the Open Provincial Champions one year ago!
Sutherland cruised through the A-Event outscoring their opponents 24-5, securing them a spot into the championship final Sunday afternoon.
After dropping their first game 8-2 to Team Stark of Moose Jaw, the Matthew Drewitz rink from the Saskatoon Sutherland went on a roll winning four straight games to meet with Sutherland in Sunday’s final. But Sutherland was just too much for Drewitz on this day, as Sutherland scored a big end of four mid-way through the game to seal the 8-3 win and defending their provincial title!
