Eberle & Lawton Grab Opening Day Wins

As day one concludes here in Melfort at the 2018 Viterra Scotties Women’s Provincial Championship, teams Stefanie Lawton (Saskatoon) & Chantelle Eberle (Regina) conclude Day 1 with a pair of wins and sit atop of the standings!

Stefanie Lawton started off the day with a 6-5 win over Team Ashley Howard, then followed that up with a convincing win over fellow Saskatoon rink in Nancy Martin 7-0 after six ends of play! It will be a battle between the 2-0 rinks as Lawton will hit the ice against Eberle tomorrow morning.

Eberle and Team Amber Holland faced off this evening on the first SaskTel Max Live broadcast of the week. A back and forth battle all game long had the score at 5-4 Holland heading into the 9th end, where it was Eberle who broke it open with a big score of three which lead to the 7-5 win. Eberle also picked up an 8-5 win this afternoon against Team Robyn Silvernagle.

Rematch of Last Years Final Goes To Silvernagle

The crowd here in Melfort caught a glimpse of the final game one year ago in Melville at the Horizon Credit Union Centre, as it was a rematch between Team Penny Barker of Moose Jaw and North Batttlefords Robyn Silvernagle. Silvernagle managed to keep Barker off the scoreboard all the way up until the 7th end, but along came Barker with back to back steals sending this one into an extra end. Silvernagle made a perfect tap and roll to the button for the win and to even her record at 1-1, also bringing Barker back to sit at 1-1.

Other teams joining Silvernagle and Barker at 1-1 are teams Ashley Howard and Sherry Anderson who faced off in tonights draw. The exclamation point in this game was a big score of six in the second end for Howard, who went on to win by a score of 10-4!
