Five Saskatchewan Players Competing at Upcoming Canad Inns Mixed Doubles Olympic Curling Trials!

Portage la Prairie to host 2018 Canad Inns Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials

Only a few short weeks after one of the best playoff Sundays at the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials took place in Ottawa, you will see many familiar faces try a second time to earn the right to represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The Canad Inns Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials will kick off Jan. 2.

There will be five Saskatchewan representatives hitting the ice in Portage la Prairie, who all have had great success on the Mixed Doubles Tour across North America the past few seasons.

Sherry Just (Saskatoon) & Tyrel Griffith (Kelowna)

Sherry Just just recently received the news that she will be competing with Tyrel Griffith at the event in Portage la Prairie, as original partner Emma Miskew claimed the women’s team berth into the Olympics with Team Rachel Homan’s win at the Olympic Trials a few weeks ago in Ottawa!

Just is out of Saskatoon while Griffith will play out of the Kelowna Curling Club! This will be the first time the pair have played with each other and look forward to a great week together.

Just originally played with teammate Ryan Deis of Fox Valley in previous mixed doubles events.

Nancy Martin (Saskatoon) & Catlin Schneider (Regina)

This will be the third consecutive season the Nancy Martin & Catlin Schneider team have competed together at mixed doubles curling events.

They have competed in many events on the World Curling Tour and attended the past two Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championships! At the last two Canadian Championships, they have a combined 8-6 record qualifying for the “Round of 12” in the 2016 championship.

Both Martin & Schneider have been busy competing with both their men’s and women’s teams as well this season, where Martin skips her own Saskatchewan squad and Schneider playing second on British Columbia’s Team John Morris.

Marliese Kasner (Shellbrook) & Dustin Kalthoff (Saskatoon)

Marliese Kasner and Dustin Kalthoff have also seen a lot of Mixed Doubles action over the past few years competing against some of the worlds best!!

Kalthoff was the 2016 Provincial Mixed Doubles Champion (with teammate Sherry Anderson) but has competed with Kasner at the last two Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championships! At these two events, they have a combined record of 11-3 qualifying for the “Round of 12” in both competitions!!

Back in 2016, Kalthoff and Kasner picked up the bronze medal at the Canadian Championship in their hometown of Saskatoon, where they went on to represent Canada at the World Mixed Doubles Championship, placing 5th.
