Team SK Final Daily Blog – U18 Men's
Saturday morning was full of anticipation and excitement for today’s semi-final and final games.
Before the semi-final games started, the All Star Team awards were presented. Rylan Kleiter won 1st Team All Star award for the skip position and Trevor Johnson won 1st Team All Star award for the third position. These awards are presented to the top player in each position according to their scoring percentages throughout round robin play, as calculated by Curling Canada officials. Well done boys!
We played Team Nova Scotia in the semi-final game at 1:00 pm. It was a tight game with score 4-3 Nova Scotia in the final end. Nova Scotia had hammer and was successful on his last shot which was a back line weight out-turn hit for the victory.
Hats off to Team Nova Scotia for being a classy team in victory, and in defeat, earlier in the week.
With this loss, we face Team BC, again, in the Bronze medal game.
Before the final games started, our coach, Dean Kleiter, was awarded the boys coaching award that goes out to the coach that best demonstrates passion for the game, sportsmanship, and is an ambassador for the game. This award is voted by of the coaches.
The bronze medal game was a tight game again, with the score being 4-4 in the final end. We had hammer but could not convert on our last shot, an out turn draw to the four foot.
Although this was not the finish to the weekend we anticipated, it was a great and memorable week for Team Kleiter. Not many curling teams get to make it to a national championship. We were fortunate enough to attend 2 national championships this year and are extremely grateful for it.
Team Kleiter would like to thank the parents and grandparents for their support in Moncton throughout the week. We would also like to thank the volunteers, officials, the Curling Canada personnel, and especially the ice technicians. The ice was impeccable all week, both in Curl Moncton and in the Superior Propane Center.
One final thank you goes out to Team Curl Sask for their continued support of Team Kleiter throughout this season, especially Ashley Howard and Pat Simmons who were always there to lend a hand, share their advice and experience and were always there to help if needed.
Till next year
