Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame Upcoming Events!
Funding received through Farm Credit Corporation’s Regina Spirit Fund
The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF) is pleased to announce that we are the recipients of sponsorship money through Farm Credit Canada’s (FCC) Regina Spirit Fund. These funds will be used to support the continued development of our interactive programming space, specifically an adaptive curling area.
The SSHF has become a regular go to organization for a number of special needs program delivery partners. The Regina Spirit Fund provides us with an opportunity to offer some programming initiatives that better supports these participants.
The implementation of an adaptive curling component in our gallery will focus on wheelchair and stick curling, with the opportunity for blind, or visually impaired, curling if requested. The use of specialized indoor curling equipment paired with additional adaptive equipment provides an opportunity to play in an off-ice situation.
The direct beneficiaries of our project include visitors who are physically challenged who want to experience diverse sport opportunities in a safe environment; all participants in our education programming, and the casual visitor who wishes to engage in an interactive museum experience. The adaptive curling simulator will give participants the opportunity to learn new sport skills in a fun safe environment; develop an understanding of the physical demands required to participate in an adapted sport; develop an appreciation for individual accomplishments, skills and fitness levels; develop an understanding the importance of activity regardless of ability in a fun environment; and work towards the establishment of healthy lifestyles through active living.
