Silvernagle Wins Extra End Thriller & Barker Edges Martin During Playoff Saturday
1 vs. 2 Page Playoff Game – Silvernagle (1) vs. Lawton (2)
Less than 24 hours since these two teams battled in the final round robin draw of the Viterra Scotties, they met once again in the 1 vs. 2 Page Playoff game tonight here in Melville.Lawton struggled a bit through ends two, three, and four coming up heavy on a draw and missing a hit and stick giving Silvernagle a 6-1 lead heading into the 5th end break.

But Lawton responded in a hurry picking up her single in the 6th, and scoring a huge steal of three after Silvernagle’s draw to the four foot came up heavy. Lawton down two coming home, draws the four foot with her final stone after Silvernagle just misses a double attempt to put it away. In the extra,Silvernagle is forced to make a tough little short tap back around a center guard for the win, and she does just that! Silvernagle now books her ticket into the championship final which will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday evening. Lawton will now drop down into the semi-final and face Penny Barker.

3 vs. 4 Page Playoff Game – Martin (3) vs. Barker (4)
This game between Martin and Barker got off to a similar start as the Silvernagle and Lawton matchup, with one team getting off to a fairly large lead after a few oppositions mistakes. Martin found herself with a 6-2 lead after seven ends with a delicate hit and roll to count four. Barker then with an opportunity to count a four spot of her own, but ends up throwing her last rock a little light and tight racking on the guard but still managed to count three. This one would come down to the last shot in the 10th, and Martin having a difficult angle raise to grab a piece of the button. Line turned out nearly perfect for Martin, but ends up being a shade heavy and Barker picks up the steal of two and a semi-final berth against Lawton!
Two “nail-biting” games tonight giving the crowd their money’s worth. Semi final to begin at 12 p.m. with the final slated to start at 5 p.m.! Come on out Sunday to the Horizon Credit Union Centre in Melville.
