Meridian Canadian Open Grand Slam of Curling

What a week it was up in North Battleford for the first Grand Slam event of the new year. Two Saskatchewan teams had the pleasure of playing in front of a home crowd, and they did not seem to disappoint. Bruce Korte from Saskatoon proved he can play at the slam level competing in tight matches with some of the worlds best! They lost a tough C Qualifying game to Mike McEwen’s squad from Manitoba. Steve Laycock who is no stranger to the slam scene, qualified for the playoffs through the C Event with a win over Charley Thomas, but fell short in the quarter-finals to the eventual winner in Brad Gushue. Great weekend had by both SK Men’s teams, along with all the volunteers and spectators in North Battleford!!
