November has treated us with a lot of jam packed curling action every weekend, but this upcoming one seems to be fairly quiet around the province. Good for teams to rest up as playdowns are just around the corner. But do not worry, there is still great curling action to follow all weekend with the Senior Women’s Provincial Qualification Spiel, as well as the 2016 Home Hardware Canada Cup.
Affinity Credit Union Senior Women’s Q-Spiel #2 – Saskatoon Granite Curling Club
The road to the provincial championship to Swift Current, SK has stop number two on it’s process with teams looking to find a spot into the provincials early February. Twelve of some of the top senior women’s teams from around the province will compete this upcoming weekend in Saskatoon looking to claim one of the three berths. Former provincial champions of Cathy Inglis (2015) and Darlene Gillies (2012) will be among some of the teams hitting the ice.
First draw begins Friday Dec. 2 @ 3:00 p.m. Head on down to the Saskatoon Granite Curling Club to catch some of the action!
2016 Home Hardware Canada Cup
Team Steve Laycock of the Saskatoon Nutana Curling Club is currently competing for that all important direct berth into the 2017 Canadian Curling Trials in Ottawa, ON. The boys got off to a hot start yesterday as they picked up a two win day to begin the event. Yesterday afternoon they faced off against last years Manitoba Champion Mike McEwen, and squeaked out a close one 6-5 as Laycock picked up the single in the 10th end to win it. The evening draw of Day 1 they found themselves lined up with last years Canada Cup champion in Kevin Koe, where with a huge score of 4 in the 7th end seemed to seal the deal as the boys picked up a 9-5 win. They now sit at 2-0 with games against Brad Gushue and former Olympic champion Brad Jacobs. Good Luck gentleman!
Check out all the action all week and into the weekend on TSN!!
