Here is a recap of all the action throughout the weekend:
2016 Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic
The spiel up at the Crestwood Curling Club in Edmonton, Alberta witnessed a fantastic weekend of curling from some of the best men’s teams our sport has to offer. The 7 Saskatchewan Men’s teams that competed for the title put up some impressive games and tough battles throughout the weekend.
Come playoff time, we saw two Saskatchewan teams in Bruce Korte and Steve Laycock advancing to the Sunday evening quarter finals. Team Bruce Korte came up against Team Kevin Koe, which saw the Koe rink take a close game 6-5 to move on towards the semi final match.
In the other quarter final, Steve Laycock and the boys rallied off two straight playoff wins against Team Jason Gunlaugson (8-5 victory) and Team John Morris (7-4 victory) to meet up with Reid Carruthers in the championship final. Steve scored a huge 3 points in the third end to take an early two point lead, but Carruthers battled back and scored a late deuce in the eighth end to force an extra. But the boys from Saskatoon scored a single in the extra to take the first place prize! Congrats Team Steve Laycock!
