Blog #3 for Team Saskatchewan
It was a bit of a challenging day for Team Saskatchewan @ the Scotties. The girls woke up excited and ready to compete after their Game #1 win vs Nova Scotia. I prepared hard boiled eggs in my room for the early risers, and then we departed bright and early for the rink. We are really enjoying the volunteer drivers who go above and beyond to ensure we get to and from where we need to go (including to and from the hotel and rink, grocery runs, restaurants, etc). We have decided that Jolene’s baby will be named after who we vote as the coolest driver at the end of the week! So far I believe “Brian” is in the lead ;). I hope Jo’s husband Greg doesn’t mind us taking this approach to naming his 3rd child!
The girls played a pretty good Game #2 vs. Ontario, despite what the final score reflected. They were tied with the hammer coming home in the 10th end, but just were not able to capitalize on the opportunity for the win. In their Game #3 vs. Quebec, it seemed as though things were just not working for them, but not for lack of trying! As you can imagine, the two games were disappointing and frustrating losses for these four passionate and competitive girls. That said, there is one thing you all NEED to know about this team…they are RESILIENT, HARD WORKING, SUPPORTIVE and POSITIVE (among many other things). As their mental trainer (a.k.a. “coach”), I have no doubt the team will fully regroup, refocus and be ready to play to their potential tomorrow.
Team Campbell (Team Saskatchewan) is so much fun to watch curl, and are a joy to work with. It is inspiring how much they genuinely LOVE playing together and how they have such a great connection on and off the ice. I believe it is because they are bonded by a focused commitment and desire to achieve the same goals.
I would be remiss if I didn’t share that this evening the girls gathered 50 of their family / friends who came to Grand Prairie in support of Team Saskatchewan, to enjoy a relaxing and fun evening of good food and great company at Mike’s Steakhouse. I believe it was a perfect way to unwind…..zzzzzzzzzzzz
As Ashley Howard (Howie) says…. “This personality takes a lot of energy”. I hope she and the rest of the girls are resting well now…. Tomorrow is a new day! Get ready to see a fun and light-hearted, yet feisty and talented team curl some great games!
