2016 Affinity Senior Joint Championships
The Senior Men’s North and South Challenge events concluded on the weekend in Assiniboia and the Granite Club in Saskatoon. These two events each declared four teams that have moved on to the 2016 Affinity Senior Men’s Provincial Championships in North Battleford beginning February 24th and concluding on Sunday, February 28th. The Seniors’ provincial competition features 8 teams that will play a 7 game round robin. The top 3 teams will advance to the playoffs.
From the South, the following teams earned their berths:
Team Gord Bell – Regina Callie; Team Brad Law – Regina Callie; Team Daryl Williamson – Moosomin and Team Randy Gilewich – Regina Highland.
From the North, the following teams were declared:
Team Darrell McKee – Saskatoon Nutana; Team Terry Martenuik – Yorkton; Team Brad Heidt – Kerrobert and Team Eugene Hritzuk – Saskatoon Nutana.
The 2016 Affinity Senior Women’s Provincial Championship will also be hosted by Twin Rivers North Battleford jointly with the Men’s event. The same format of 8 teams playing a 7 game round robin will be followed. The top 3 teams will make the playoffs.
Competitors for the women’s event were determined during the course of the curling season through three different qualifying events. Those teams are as follows:
Q Spiel #1 – Team Cathy Inglis – Yorkton; Team Joan McCusker – Regina Callie; Team Tracy Streifel – Saskatoon Nutana.
Q Spiel #2 – Team Delores Syrota – Wadena; Team Lorraine Arguin – Moose Jaw; Team Peggy Fernquist – Saskatoon Granite.
Q Spiel #3 – Team Sherry Anderson – Saskatoon Nutana; Team Merle Kopach – Saskatoon Granite.
The provincial champions will then represent Saskatchewan at the 2016 Canadian Championships in Digby, NS from March 28- April 3, 2016.
