Great Week in Ottawa – So Many Highlights
CURLSASK NOTE: Many Thanks to Bob and Kaitlin for taking on the roles of scribes and bloggers. The interest in the blogs has been fantastic. Three cheers and big congratulations to both bloggers and SK curling fans who faithfully read the reports and supported the teams.
Team Sask both made it past the round robin. The men’s team played a hard fought tie breaker against Quebec. The big moment in the game was when a draw against two came up short in the 5th. We battled back from the 5-2 deficit to be down 6-4 with coming home. We made all seven shots that we threw; however, Quebec made four straight run backs to run us out of stones.
Congratulations to Newfoundland on winning, and to Manitoba and Quebec on also winning medals. Newfoundland only lost one game all week, and it was to us.
Bob and the rest of the Sask Men
On the women’s side we had an unfortunate game against Northern Ontario. We struggled to get onto the ice and the newly sharpened stones. We fell behind early and were unable to recover. We officially had to pack up our curling equipment and clean out our locker. The team then went for an excursion to the largest mall in Ottawa via the city bus. This was a very interesting experience for our team as on the way home Candace got the bus driver to go out of his way to drop us off at our hotel. That night was the team party. A country band played songs that reminded us of our province. Both Sask teams were able to socialize and have a good time until the band had to pack up.
Today we took part in a closing banquet with all of the teams where many players and teams were recognized for their efforts this week.
This was a great event to be a part of. The organizers made this event a huge success. Both teams look forwards to playing in this event again in two years.
Thanks to all of our followers for your support.
Kaitlin and the rest of Team Newkirk.
