First Game in the Books with a W
The CURLSASK Board, Staff and curling fans wish to thank Kevin Marsh and Team Korte for their willingness to contribute to the CURLSASK website with their insights and comments from the 2016 Canadian Mixed Championships in Toronto, Ontario. There is no fifth player that they may delegate this request so it is the curlers themselves that need to provide the content.
Good Luck and Good Curling to the team from Saskatoon Nutana!
“Hi everyone back in Sask!
The Leafs and Raptors are taking a back seat in Toronto this week, as the Canadian Mixed Championship is now underway… ok, maybe we won’t be making any front-page headlines but we are looking forward to an exciting week in T.O.
The Weston is an unbelievable golf & country club. We are being treated like royalty. For anyone who is into golf, this is how I would picture the Augusta National Golf Course… it has the “Masters” feel with the vintage/classy look, with MASSIVE locker rooms. (We will have to talk to Kory at Nutana about installing a steam room…)
We flew in on Saturday morning and met the all the teams at a social at the club. Lots of recognizable faces from Briers/Scotties/Juniors so it is shaping up to be a fun and competitive event.
By Sunday night we were itching to get on the ice. Opening ceremonies we short and sweet… Carolyn was our SK flag bearer (she was very honoured to do it… she had tears in her eyes, haha!)
Our first game was against Eddie MacKenzie from PEI. We got off to a strong start; winning the hammer and starting the game off with a deuce in the first. We caught a few more breaks and curled a solid game to come out on top with a 6-2 victory. Felt great to get the first W; hopefully many more to come this week! Next up, Newfoundland in the evening draw tonight! Now we have some time to explore downtown Toronto!
Talk to you later!
Bruce, Ros, Kevin, Carolyn”
