Youth Development is Central Focus
Viterra, Canada’s grain industry leader, has partnered with CURLSASK to grow and expand CURLSASK’s youth curling programs. Through the support and reach of Viterra, many more communities will now have access to CURLSASK clinics, mini-clinics and the newly developed FUN:)CURL program designed for 6-10 year curlers.
Currently Viterra is the title sponsor of the CURLSASK Women’s Provincial Scotties Championships. “We’re pleased to be building on our successful collaboration with CURLSASK by supporting youth curling programs throughout the province”, said Kyle Jeworski, Viterra’s President and CEO for North America. The funds provided by Viterra permit a host club to provide for instructor expenses, nutritional requirements, extra equipment and general hosting expenses. The incentive for clubs to host clinics is a win-win for all involved as the future of curling clubs depends on the development of young talent and introducing them in a safe and structured manner to Saskatchewan’s Official Sport. Viterra’s support also provides the opportunity for CURLSASK to work with clubs to develop their own FUN:)CURL Instructors and programs.
As noted on the CURLSASK Programs Youth page several Viterra Youth Curling Clinics have been either held or are scheduled for communities such as Foam Lake, Leader, Maple Creek, Moosomin, the Regina Callie and the Ford Curling Centre in Moose Jaw. Clinics range from 4 hours to 2 full weekend days with the average clinic presenting 6-9 hours of on and off ice instruction by certified CURLSASK instructors. Moose Jaw is running a thriving weekly FUN:)CURL program with 32 youngsters participating.
