The Show Went On – Sort Of!
A major Saskatoon snowfall and resulting power outage on the Saturday afternoon of the CURLSASK Annual General Meeting and Gala Awards Dinner caused a significant change of plans for all those attending. However, it did not dampen the spirits of the stars of the show and the people that came to wish them well for their accomplishments.
In the third year of the dinner format to present the 2015 Provincial Curling Champions, CURLSASK notable volunteers and the newest of the SCA Hall of Fame Legends, CURLSASK was expecting a large turnout of 200 attendees to the ceremonies.
However, the host Ramada Hotel did not escape the power outage that impacted most of the West side of Saskatoon for 5 hours on Saturday evening. In true Saskatchewan spirit, people resorted to candles, cell phone flashlights and natural daylight where available to gather to applaud the Class of 2015. The result was the Dinner was cancelled but the Recognition and Inductions carried on. Master of Ceremonies Heath Mulligan and Legends Chairperson Jerry Shoemaker improvised wonderfully to ensure everything ran as smoothly as possible.
