From Lana Vey – 5th player extraordinaire!
“Well it’s been a busy couple of days for the girls. We had good games on Wednesday, and then pulled together a couple of great wins on Thursday. We have a big game today against PEI, winning gets us third place so hopefully we can put together a strong game.
I’ll try to get you up to speed now on what’s been happening besides just the curling. With Sherri Singler’s arrival my duties as 6th man have expanded to helping her get around so that has been interesting. She is nice enough to stay at night while Rick and I match rocks after the evening draws. It’s quite the walk for her from the ice level to the area where the drivers are so the security guards are kind enough to put a chair on a dolly and push her around. It’s like she has her own chariot. They were even joking that they are going to make it into a parade float and push her around the arena!
We also had a really nice surprise when we got back to the hotel on Wednesday night. Hillberg and Berk jewellers gave us all beautiful sparkle ball earrings to wear for the rest of the event! I’m not sure if you noticed the girls wearing them on TV during their game against Alberta, but they were all sparkling and looked amazing. So many teams commented on how nice they looked! Thank you so much to Hillberg and Berk for sending those! We appreciate it and it definitely put a smile on all our faces!!
Finally I’m going to leave you with a couple Folk-isms to cover the last few days. The first is what Rick likes to call the “squeegee shot”. The first time he let this little gem slip out we were playing Newfoundland and they had a chance to hit the corner of one rock and ricochet off of another and squirt into the house. Apparently this is a squeegee. I think it’s a term they used more often in the 70’s or 80’s possibly because I had never heard of it! He’s also been using a lot of what he likes to call the “smile and nod”. This refers to pretty much any time I talk to him during the game about something that’s happening. I don’t think he listens to me at all, but does the smile and nod to make it seem like he is haha!
That’s all I can remember from the last few days!
Your Team Sask 6th man,
