From SK Third Jolene:
“Sorry for the delay, I know how that upsets some of my loyal readers, haha, but sleep won out last night for me!
Yesterday was a bit of a rough day for us in the Win column. We weren’t as sharp in the morning against PEI and they were playing for their lives and that showed in the first few ends. We stuck with it though and managed to take them all the way to an extra. Actually, we measured for the win in 8, but were just an inch shy of stealing 2 and the win.
After the game we decided to try out Burger World, once again we weren’t disappointed here in North Bay. Seems as though everyone we talk to has a different favourite place to eat in town … we won’t have enough days to try them all. Boy can Chris Haichert pack the food away, and I really have no idea where it goes! And you are right Ackerman, once he finishes his own if someone else has something left he thinks looks good, he will take that down too! hahaha. Lucky for him he was wearing his new sweat pants yesterday. After lunch we head back to the hotel for a bit of a rest. Then it was back to the rink for our evening game against the undefeated Ontario team. The ON team really likes to mix it up, tons of rocks in play all the time. It was a good game, we had a few missed opportunities but managed to take it down to a measure in 8. Unfortunately we needed a couple more inches in that game too.
Once again the rink was right full of spectators and curlers with some live entertainment! They have had live entertainment every evening at the club which has been an absolute blast! For those of you that are Twitter, you might know that I have been really “enjoying” our 20 min drive to the rink in the morning … country music blasting and Chris Haichert, 8 rums deep, on lead vocals! I have been giving him a hard time and he told me he was going to sing with the band Wednesday night, cause he knows he is good. So sure enough, there I am sitting in the rink last night visiting with a few other teams and I hear something … some might call it the voice of an angel (some might not), I turn around only to see Chris belting it out on lead vocals. It was a big challenge, took on a Pink Floyd song, but he did get an applause – mostly from other people that were 8 rums deep I think. It was a great time though and I am pretty sure he will get up there again, as he tells me that wasn’t really his jam. I hopped in the van with some members of Team Alberta last night to get back and hit the sheets. Teejay and Chris stopped in for a few snacks and then it was bed time for all. No, the 3 of us are not sharing a room, although we have all been friends long enough it probably wouldn’t even be that strange. We do have adjoining rooms though and I told them to close the doors tight if they are planning any romance at all … 2 little girls at home so this is a curling trip/romantic getaway all in one for them (Teejay will probably be mad when she reads this).
This morning we were up early again and off to the rink to face off against Team Quebec. We were slow starters once again, a habit we are trying to break, but by the time the 3 end hit we were in full throttle and never looked back. FElt good to break the 2 game loss streak! We enjoyed a post game beer with team Quebec and then took in some lunch at East Side Marios. Now back at the hotel for a rest. Teejay went downtown to do some shopping … she isn’t much of a napper … I don’t know how she does it. We head back to the rink tonight to face off against the team from the NWT, not much experience on their side, only 9 Briers and 7 Scotties appearances for their back end, haha. We know it will be a great battle against great friends and we are really looking forward to it. Either way I am sure some pints will be flowing tonight as we have tomorrow morning off, after 3 morning draws in a row. Maybe I will post again tonight, if not you will have to wait until morning … late morning that is.
