Paulsen, Eberle, Anderson and Holland in Calgary
The team roster listing on the World Curling page for the upcoming women’s WCT spiel in Calgary may show 4 Saskatchewan flags but it would be a stretch to say that four of the province’s women’s teams are competing. Trish Paulsen from Saskatoon and Chantelle Eberle from Regina have their teams intact for the weekend. Stefanie Lawton’s team is being skipped for the Fall season by teammate Sherry Anderson and utilizing fifth player Stephanie Schmidt. Marliese Kasner will be replaced by spare Ashley Howard for the Calgary spiel.
The fourth Saskatchewan flag is assigned to Skip Amber Holland, but a quick look at the rest of the roster shows a team with players from three other provinces. Holland is playing with Cathy Overton-Clapham from Manitoba, Sasha Carter from B.C. and Chelsey Matson from Alberta. Not one of these curlers is playing competitively this season so they decided to get together and play in a spiel that they have all enjoyed immensely over the past years.
Anderson and Eberle start playing Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. while Holland and Paulsen have the second draw at 1:00 p.m. Results will be found on the WCT scoreboard site.
The Men’s WCT western event is in Edmonton at the Crestwood Curling Club for the Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic. Steven Laycock, Kevin Marsh, Jeff Hartung and Josh Heidt’s teams are entered from Saskatchewan. Heidt will be replaced by Alberta’s Thomas Scoffin due to farming commitments. The draw starts Friday and results will be found on the WCT scoreboard site.
