68 Youth Curlers at 3rd Annual Curling Camp
Some families were on the highway as early as 5:00 A.M. this past Saturday morning as they were driving from places like Lucky Lake, Beechy, Prince Albert, Churchbridge, Lemberg, Saskatoon and Swift Current to attend the CURLSASK youth clinic at the Callie Curling Club on September 27th and 28th.
The weekend camp is a great way to start a curling season with a review of the basic fundamentals of the game and a chance to work on strategy and game playing techniques. Instructors are all CURLSASK certified and there are 8 curlers per instructor resulting in lots of personal attention. With six hours of on-ice instruction and three hours of class, the Saturday Super Shoot Out and a wind up mini “Switch” Spiel on Sunday, players received an excellent start to the their curling season. Best yet was the opportunity to meet so many others players.
The Callie did an amazing job hosting this event as the ice was super, there was lots of room to move about and the food and snacks were “awesome” to quote the curlers.
There are more clinics scheduled over the next few months. Check the Youth Page in the Programs section of the CURLSASK website for the listing of clinics. There is still lots of time for clubs wishing to schedule a clinic for their area. All that is needed is a minimum of 8 curlers, a person at the a club to help organize and some ice. CURLSASK will find the instructors and deliver the program.
