Ashley Quick and Mike Armstrong are a terrific curling duo. In 2013 they won the inaugural Saskatchewan Mixed Doubles Championship and followed that title up with a quarter final appearance in the 2013 National Mixed competition. At the 2014 National Championship on Sunday, March 23rd in Ottawa, Quick and Armstrong moved into the quarter finals based on a 7-0 round robin record. They extended the streak to 8 wins with a victory over Mark Kean and Mallory Buist from Ontario. The undefeated streak though came to an end when they lost to KaLynn Park and Charley Thomas from Alberta in a game that came down to Park drawing the four foot for the win.
Nancy Martin and Dustin Kalthoff are another super duo out of Saskatchewan that had another great run at the 2014 national title. In 2013 they lost both the Saskatchewan and National finals. This year they qualified for the Canadian Championship playoffs but were defeated in the quarter finals by Park and Thomas.
Colleen and Jason Ackerman were the other Saskatchewan team to qualify in the round of 16’s but they lost to the East Coast based team of Adam Casey and Marie Christianson.
The National Mixed Doubles were hosted by the Ottawa Hunt Club. The eventual winners were Wayne and Kim Tuck from Ontario and they will represent Canada at the World Mixed Doubles Championship in Dumfries, Scotland April 11-18, 2014.
