The Swift Current Curling Club was guaranteed another CURLSASK Provincial Banner when the 2014 Tim Horton’s Mixed Championship game got underway in Rosetown. The defending champion Shaun Meachem team was waiting for the winner of the semifinal between Tyler Hartung from Watrous and Swift Current club mates Max Kirkpatrick. When Kirkpatrick emerged from a tightly fought contest against Hartung, it set the stage for an all Swift Current match for the Mixed Title.
The final game was closely fought with Kirkpatrick prevailing with an 8-7 win. A crucial steal of two in the sixth followed by a steal in the 7th allowed the Kirkpatrick team to open a 8-3 lead. Meachem’s team countered with their own two ender and steasl in the 9th and 10th ends but it was not enough to come back to retain their title. Playing with Max are third Jolene McIvor, second Chris Haichert and lead TeeJay Haichert. Meachem was accompanied by third Kelly Schafer, second Carl deConinck Smith and lead Kelsey Dutton.
The Kirkpatrick team will travel to North Bay, Ontario for the National Championship to be held November 8-15th, 2014.
