The Canadian Women’s Curling Championship begins Saturday, February 1, in Montreal with Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton carrying the colours for Saskatchewan. After a strong and dominating performance in Tisdale at the Viterra Scotties, Lawton appears well positioned for a great run at the National Scotties.
Team SK, with Lawton, Sherry Anderson, Sheri Singler and Marliese Kasner, opens on the second draw against Ontario Saturday evening at 6:00 PM Saskatchewan time against a very young, but strong, Team Ontario. Allison Flaxey’s team has had an excellent bonspiel season including a semi-final appearance at the Colonial Classic in Saskatoon in November. Saskatchewan’s second game will be 8:00 AM (SK Time) Sunday morning, against Team Manitoba which is led by Chelsea Carey in her first Scotties appearance. This is followed by a 1:00 PM (SK Time) against Alberta’s Val Sweeting.
This is Lawton’s first appearance since 2009 and the first with Sherry Anderson at third. The team is rounded out with fifth player Dailene Sivertson and Coach Rick Folk.
