The Stefanie Lawton team was not to be denied this weekend in Tisdale. After many heartbreaking final losses since their 2009 title, the team came out firing on all cylinders in the women’s championship game. Timely doubles, fearless draws, excellent sweeping and flawless peeling by Stefanie, Sherry Anderson, Sherri Singler and Marliese Kasner led to a 5-2 victory over Michelle Englot. Team Englot includes Candace Chisholm, Roberta Materi and Kristy Johnson.
Lawton opened the game with a two ender and never allowed Englot’s team to score multiple points and subsequently did not relinquish control of the game. A key steal in the seventh end after a tight measurement, put Lawton up 4-1. Englot was forced to a single in the eighth and then Lawton opted to take 1 point in the ninth end to maintain their three point lead. Facing two Englot rocks in the tenth, Lawton coolly removed one rock eliminating all chances of a three point score for Englot.
The team will now represent Saskatchewan at the 2014 Scotties in Montreal that starts February 1 and concludes February 9th. This will be Sherry Anderson’s fifth appearance as a player at the Scotties while this is the third appearance for the rest of the team. They will be accompanied by Coach Rick Folk.
