The final eight teams for the 2014 Viterra Scotties that will be held in Tisdale from January 8th -12th, 2014 were determined this past weekend in Saskatoon and Regina.
The CN Club was the host for the Northern Playdowns where 8 teams competed for 4 berths to the Provincial playdown. Ros Stewart opened with three straight wins over Nancy Martin, Sherry Just and Trish Paulsen to capture the A berth Saturday afternoon. After dropping to the B event, Paulsen rallied with a decisive victory over Nancy Martin to claim the second Northern spot.
Jill Shumay’s defending provincial championship team had a more difficult weekend but escaped with a C event victory over Nancy Martin in one of two C Finals. The other C Final saw Teandra Friesen defeat Amanda Labach.
The Callie Club in Regina had 10 teams vying for the other four provincial berths. The first team to make their way to Tisdale was Mandy Selzer’s team after a hard fought A Final over Lana Vey. Vey bounced back with two wins in the B event defeating Jana Tisdale in the B semi-final followed by a win over Brett Barber.
Barber then dropped straight to one of the two C Finals where she defeated junior hopeful Lorraine Schneider. Coming through the C event with two straight victories to claim the final berth to Provincials was TeeJay Haichert with a victory over Jana Tisdale.
