In a busy weekend for Saskatchewan curlers, the men’s teams competing on the WCT have either gone east to Portage, MB or west to Medicine Hat, AB for tour events this weekend. Portage is hosting the Canad Inns Charity Classic where Jeff Hartung, Joel Jordison, Steve Laycock and Brock Virtue start play Friday morning. Both Laycock and Virtue are coming off of excellent showings in last week’s Edmonton spiel where Laycock advanced to the semifinals while Virtue went to last rock before succumbing to Kevin Martin’s Alberta team in the championship final.
The Medicine Hat Charity Classic has seven Saskatchewan teams on the ice starting at either Noon or 6:30 P.M. on Friday. Teams include Scott Bitz, winner of last weekend’s Callie Men’s spiel, Randy Bryden, Brad Heidt, Josh Heidt, Max Kirkpatrick, Scott Manners and Randy Woytowich.
