Starting up the curling season means more than opening doors to the club and upgrading curling skills. Ice making, coaching and officiating skills are also important components to the game. October is full of courses for those people wishing to expand their skill sets in those areas. Links to descriptions and information on how to register are provided in each section.
Two CURLSASK Ice Technician courses will be held this month. Prince Albert Curling Club and Pense Curling Clubs will be hosting courses in October. Prince Albert’s session will October 19th – 20th, while Pense is October 26th-27th. Some of the topics that are taught and reviewed include ice scraping techniques, pebbling techniques and rock care to name a few. Swift Current is holding a one day Club Coach – Youth course on Saturday, October 19th. This course is excellent for those involved in their club’s Youth program or school coaching program. Information on this course may be found in the Programs – Coaching section.
A Competition Coach class will be held in Balgonie on October 24 – 26th, 2013. This course is intended for those people who wish to coach competitive teams of any age group. All junior aged teams must have a Competition Coach level coach to compete in CURLSASK events and coaches must have this certification to coach at Adult competitions.
Moose Jaw is hosting an Officials Clinic from October 25th-26th. This course prepares a person to be a game observer and timer while setting the stage to become a Supervising Official.
